Composition & the rule of thirds

featured image

Whether in video, or in illustration, one useful composition technique is to place the subject within the “one-third” portion of the image. This arrangement invites the eye to bounce from the object of focus to the rest of the image, and back again. In addition to being pleasing to the eye, this layout provides ample space to insert additional graphics.

While coaching a client on composition for video, I made a quick thumbnail sketch to get a point across.

With a bit of careful thought toward composition, you can get your point across, and make the experience a good one for your viewer.
